Digital Day Camps at Edison • Summer 2010

Unfortunately, I could not offer day camps in 2010, due to a change in district policy regarding building rental. If you are interested in future camps or weekend classes, please fill out our short form. If you are interested in after school publishing classes, please visit Edison Student Publishers .

In 2009, for the second year, Kirsti Haugen offered a variety of exciting, creative, week-long summer day camps right in the Edison neighborhood. Thanks for all the fun we had at our three camps! Check out what we did at Legos Unleashed, Edison Student Publishers, and Edison Animators, or click the links below to learn more about these camps and classes:

Below you'll find descriptions of the various camps we can offer. Other topics are also possible. Please inquire !

legomania.pngLego Mania! - July 20-24

Come build with Legos, explore web sites where you can find and share designs, use Lego design software, create a group Lego web site, and maybe even build your own Lego USB jump drive! We'll have a few occasions to bring in your own models to display, but otherwise, leave your Legos at home, and, please, leave all our Legos at camp!

co2cars.pngCO2 Powered Cars - Jason Aulicino - cancelled

Make CO2 powered cars constructed from balsa wood. Design and build your own cars, and take your projects home for reuse. We will have an opportunity to “launch,” race, and track our progress and speed.

Come create the back-to-school edition of our student-published paper. We'll also learn some web skills to create an online edition, and venture into the community to do interviews, surveys, ads or investigative reporting.

art-jason.pngArt with Jason - Jason Aulicino - cancelled

Create your own art projects, study the artwork of others, and share their ideas about art and other disciplines. Study artists from all time periods and cultures, and use a wide array of supplies to create sculpture, painting, collage, drawing, print blocking, origami, and architecture, and more.

animation.pngStop Motion Animation! - August 3-7 - FULL!

Use stop motion techniques to make a movie using Legos, clay or other materials. Add titles, sounds and special effects. Show your movie at our special Friday Screening, and take home a DVD with everyone's creations!
This camp is now full! You may sign up for a spot on the waiting list.

rocket.pngSpace and Rockets - Jason Aulicino - cancelled

Build fuel-powered rockets from scratch, and launch the rocket at least once. Students keep their rockets and they can be reused for launch repeatedly. The curriculum also includes slideshows, podcasts, and the science behind aerodynamics and space travel.

scratchcamp.pngMade from Scratch! - on hold

Have you ever wanted to make your own video game or movie? Come learn how, using Scratch, the free programming software from MIT. We'll share our creations in a special Friday afternoon exhibition!
